“The idea and perception of plastic surgery is completely demystified and, in general, the improvement of the image – of the face, of the body – has been included in the framework of thinking “I want to take care of myself, to look better “.
This is stated today in an interview with “demokratika” by Dr. Eleftherios Dimitriadiou, plastic and reconstructive surgeon and scientific manager of the Luxurious Medical Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery clinics operating in Rhodes. In addition to aesthetic plastic surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery plays an important role in skin damage such as cancer and burns.
Explaining the reasons why he chose to build a high performance practice in Rhodes, Mr. Dimitradiou replies that “I love Rhodes and I want to see it progress to become a great destination where everyone can have many options to visit”.
In addition, it clarifies that plastic surgery in Greece is of a very high standard but also very affordable.
The interview in detail:
• Mr. Dimitradiou, plastic surgery is widespread mainly for its aesthetic side. In recent years, women, men and even younger people do not consider a visit to the plastic surgeon “taboo” to improve their appearance. Give us an insight into what’s going on today in 2019.
First of all, we must note that this science has been included in the so-called ‘life style’ of the modern Greek. The idea and perception of plastic surgery is completely demystified and, in general, the improvement of the image – of the face, of the body – has been included in the framework of thinking “I want to take care of myself, to look better” . It would be better to combine this with… becoming a better person (!)
The modern man has it all right in his life. I consider this to be a positive step, because a person who takes care of his image – always in the context of what is reasonable, possible and humane – is something that shows a self-respect.
A respect for us, for our image that we put out in society. Beyond that, beyond trying to improve our image, the choice of plastic surgery also involves a mood for life.
A person who takes care of his image shows that he wants to live, that he wants to be liked by himself and others, to be active in society and I consider that very important.
• Certainly psychology always plays a role. Do you prepare your patients psychologically, when they come and ask you for some things that might be excessive?
It is always preceded by a discussion. The conversation always takes place as far as possible, that is, from what can be done, what can be acceptable on average. It is not right to do things that are out of the ordinary. Plastic surgery comes to improve things and not to change things in order to have a radical change in the result.
Because many times, such a thing involves risks and we don’t want to provoke them. We want to move within the framework of the normal, with an improvement that will give us more satisfaction, more confidence but up to a certain point.
• What are the most “popular” procedures that you are asked for the most?
Clearly the treatments that are done in the doctor’s office, which include injectable treatments or treatments where we use medical equipment (e.g. lazer medical for hair removal or improving the quality of the skin) are the most common. Injectable treatments such as e.g. botox, hyaluronic, is a valuable ally on a daily basis.
In terms of surgeries, most definitely facelifts, blepharoplasty, procedures involving the breast (corrections, reductions, augmentations, etc.) are now a daily practice and reality in the practice.
They are very common but they are surgeries and everyone who decides to have them should treat them with due seriousness.
It is a fact that they have entered our daily lives since it is no longer so difficult for someone to make the decision for a cosmetic surgery operation. In general, what is done safely and creates a better image, creates positive feelings for the person who did it and for their environment.
• Let’s move on to you. You chose to open a modern practice in Rhodes, although you have distinctions abroad and of course in Athens. Explain to us the reasons.
Look, the choice of Rhodes was made because I wanted to invest in the place where I come from. It has been a very large and very serious investment that goes beyond the limits of the island and the country. On the one hand, the people of Rhodes are unsuspected when it comes to plastic surgery and on the other hand, the people of Rhodes are very ‘cosmopolitan’, which gives me, personally, a strong incentive to stay and invest in my country.
I love Rhodes and I want to see it progress, to become a great destination where everyone can
