For as long as I can remember, from my teenage years onwards, I struggled a lot with my body and the huge fluctuations in my weight. From time to time I tried to diet on my own, cutting out what I thought made me fat, or greatly reducing the amount and meals I ate, resulting in weight loss that I would gain as soon as I deviated a little from the schedule I had made for myself, since I found it quite oppressive, unable after a point to resist caloric temptations.
So, in order to avoid the suffering I was causing to my body with the fluctuations in weight and especially to my psychology, since I was not permanently achieving the desired result, I turned to Panagiota Vassilaki, a well-known nutritionist who was recommended to me by a colleague of mine, as she had also left she was very satisfied with the effort they made together for weight loss.
My anxiety was great, because I had not dared to get on the scale again since I knew that I had gained a lot of weight for my standards, in general… I had let myself go.
So we made the appointment and he visited me at home to weigh me, measure my body fat and discuss our goal from now on – about the pounds to be lost – as well as my eating habits. What we ended up with was that 14 kilos of fat must be lost. A number that scared me incredibly, as I felt that I would have to be very hungry to achieve this and especially to stabilize at the kilos that I would end up with, with an extra degree of difficulty, that I loathe the gym and had made it clear that I would never do it.
The next day, I was eagerly waiting for him to send me to my personal email the diet that I would have to follow for a period of time until we changed it again – as it cannot be the same all the time. The anxiety is great, waiting for this “barbaric” starvation program, which I had in mind, which I would have to follow.
So when the diet was given to me, with the first reading I understood that, not only was it not barbaric, but the meals he asked me to eat were much more than what I was used to. And that’s how we started…
The truth is, that in the first 5 days, I felt a void in my diet. Not hunger, but I felt that “unsatisfied” feeling. That is, after a daily routine of eating whatever I wanted regardless of how unhealthy it was, now the diet included healthy and delicious options. Therefore, for the first 5 days it was like I was “dieting in the mind”, not in the body, since I had to love my new habits. And I really loved them as by the second week, I was doing the program happily, without any problems. Especially when my nutritionist weighed me after 2 weeks and I had lost 2.5 kilos of fat. From then on everything was going very well in my body and especially in my psychology.
So all the days went on. Different food options, nice combinations, favorite foods, no deprivation since the quantities were enough to fill you up. In fact, many times I felt full, not being able to eat the entire meal that my diet plan called for.
And just like that, within 4 months, those kilos were lost. The unbelievable was not that after all. The incredible thing is that 1 year after this diet, now “away” from my nutritionist, I am exactly the same weight that left me when we finished the diet. Without having gained extra weight again, nor fat since my “mind” learned the new eating habits. And even with the temptations I sometimes succumb to, my weight is stable as I have now learned to eat properly without depriving myself and without starving.
Finally, I have the body I want, without effort, without sweat – since as I explained I don’t work out – and now I love myself as it deserves because I now know and I define it.
