Acne

Acne  What is;

Acne is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that manifests itself in various forms, mainly in the area of the face, neck, sternum, shoulders and back. It mainly appears during puberty, when the sebaceous glands are active, but it can also appear much later due to other factors.

Acne is not contagious, nor dangerous to health, but both the periods of its exacerbation, as well as the scars it often leaves behind, significantly affect self-confidence, which is why it should not be left without treatment.

The main cause of acne is the explosive increase in the levels of androgens, hormones that are strongly active during puberty. These are male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both sexes, but in women they are subsequently converted into estrogen. The increase in androgen levels results in the enlargement of the sebaceous glands, which in turn begin to produce more sebum. Excess sebum clogs the pores and then dead cells accumulate and bacteria grow, resulting in the appearance of acne.

It applies that:

Does acne only appear in adolescence?

TRUTH:

Acne may mainly affect teenagers, but in many cases it persists into adulthood, as a treatment may not have been effective or even worsened the condition. But it is just as likely that acne first appears after the age of 30, 40 or even 50 years. It is mainly due to the hormonal fluctuations that accompany the menstrual cycle, the period of pregnancy, the stage of menopause or taking birth control pills. However, it is also associated with stress, the use of inappropriate cosmetic products or taking certain medications.

Is rosacea the same as acne?

TRUTH:

Acne and rosacea are two different skin conditions. Rosacea shows breakouts only with closed pores, no blackheads, papules or cysts. Also, unlike acne that causes redness on the face only during flare-ups, rosacea primarily manifests as redness in the center of the face – on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin – which can be either temporary , or permanent phenomenon. Περισ Rosacea is not accompanied by oiliness like acne, but very often by varicose veins and an increased sensitivity of the face to cosmetic products. Finally, rosacea tends to appear after the age of 30 and most commonly in lighter skin types, also affecting the scalp, neck, chest and shoulder blades.
